Office 2010 Is the Fastest-Selling Version

It appears that Office 2010 deserves its position of main cash cow for Microsoft along with Windows 7, seeing how 6 million copies of the productivity suite have already been sold.
During the Office 365 launch event in San Francisco, Betsy Frost Webb, General Manager, Online Services Management introduced Kurt DelBene, President, Microsoft Office Division, noting that he was responsible for the most successful version of the Office productivity suite in the company’s history.
She was of course referring to the latest iteration of the Office System, Office 2010, which was released to manufacturing in April 2010, and then hit general availability in mid-June.
DelBene helmed the teams that built not only Office 2010, but also the entire set of solutions that accompanied the productivity suite to the market, including SharePoint server 2010.
“He was also responsible for leading the 2010 wave of technology, leading the engineering and business planning behind that, introducing our flagship products, Office, SharePoint, Exchange, and Lync,” Webb stated.
“So far, this release has been so well received by our customers. In fact, this is the fastest-selling version of Office in our history. Together, he has provided a broad range of leadership across our business.” (emphasis added)
However, Webb failed to offer any actual statistics related to just how successful has Office 2010 been since the launch in mid-2010.
With Windows 7 Microsoft did not seem to have the same problem, touting millions and millions of new sold copies.
Windows 7 has already passed the 175 million sold copies mark, with the operating system showing no signs of stopping.
However, while Webb did not provide any additional details, a member of the Microsoft IW News Bites team managed to spill the beans.
It appears that Office 2010 has been indeed selling quite well, although nowhere near the numbers of Windows 7.
“Office 2010 now ranks as the fastest selling consumer version of Office in history, with more than 6 million copies sold to date - more than 30 copies of Office 2010 being sold every minute. We believe Office has been so popular in part because it helps people stay organized and productive,” the Microsoft IW News Bites team member stated. (emphasis added)
