Kenyan Jobs - Why Do All Fresh Graduates Want to Work For Blue Chip Companies?

When young students are about to graduate from leading Kenyan Universities, it is fashionable for the big blue chip companies to present a career talk on how it would be important for the young graduates to join their companies. Given that such companies offer the best Kenyan jobs with attractive perks, many young Kenyans are actually attracted to them. Companies such as safaricom, Zain and Kenya Airways regularly present career talk to students in their penultimate year.

However, many young people set themselves up for heartbreak as these companies only employ a few people each year. You not only have to score top grades in order to be employed by these companies but you also have to excel in other attributes such as leadership and extra-curricular activities.Besides, you also have to contend with competition from Kenyans with foreign University credentials. Given that some of these Universities want to be seen as top employers in the region, some regularly shun graduates from local Universities because of the Kenyan Universities low global ranking.Simply put, there are simply few jobs in Kenya

As such, many young people send hundreds of CVs to these companies without any chance of success. Perhaps the graduates would well be advised to change their strategy. They could opt for the average companies in order to gain experience and the necessary on the job skills before setting their eyes on these top Kenyan companies. This way, they won't have to stay at home for very long periods of time waiting for that lucrative job offer from top companies. Perhaps, career counselors at our public and private Universities would do well to advise students on this. The other strategy would be for the government to create many Kenyan jobs.
